Jeffersonian Contemporary Home
Hope Ranch, California
Robert Klammer, Project Architect for b3 Architects (BArry Berkus, aia)
In response to the client’s wish list this house combines contemporary living within a traditional architectural assemblage. The stone exterior, white plank siding, slate and copper roofs pay homage to Thomas Jefferson’s neoclassical Monticello residence. At 8,000 square feet, this three-level home lives large with spaces designed for entertaining. It includes a grand entry rotunda, a large living room with three seating areas, a formal dining room with seating for 16, a kitchen with two islands, a family/media room, multiple bedroom suites, a voluminous two-story library and home offices. While the interior can handle a crowd, it’s scaled to function well for everyday use. The house and its large southerly terraces are oriented towards views of the Pacific Ocean. Other features include a dumbwaiter facilitating movement of wine from the cellar to the main living level. Also included is a drive-thru garage, guest parking, fountains, a swimming pool and tennis court.
